Commencing early in the morning following breakfast, you’ll embark on a drive to Marangu Gate, situated in the scenic Marangu village. Here, the customary registration process for Mount Kilimanjaro climbing will take place. Ensure to pack a backpack with essentials such as a camera, extra clothing, rain jacket, and other recommended items for the day’s trek. Porters will handle additional gear including food, water, and cooking supplies, often arriving ahead to prepare for dinner. After completing formalities, your guide will lead you along a clearly marked trail, offering assistance and insights as needed. Departing from the park office, the ascent begins through a picturesque ridge route within the rainforest. The forest, adorned with mist and draped in moss, follows the stream’s edge through lush undergrowth. After approximately three hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Mandara Hut, situated amidst the tranquil montane forest. The hut, equipped with wooden A-framed structures, offers a comfortable haven for climbers, with solar-powered lighting and essential amenities. Water sourced from springs above flows into the camp, with flush toilets conveniently located behind the main hut.
Habitat: Montane forest
Duration: 3 hours
Distance: About 2 km
Set off early after breakfast for the ascent towards Horombo Hut, carrying a picnic lunch along. From Mandara Hut, the trail leads through a brief forest stretch before skirting the base of Maundi Crater, transitioning into the moorland. Consider taking a short detour to Maundi Crater’s rim for breathtaking views of Kibo Crater and its glaciers on clear days. Traverse through the moorlands, encountering Kilimanjaro’s unique flora, including towering lobelia and groundsel plants. By late afternoon, reach Horombo Hut, where a warm dinner and overnight stay await. Enjoy a restful night, with temperatures hovering around freezing point.

Today is dedicated to crucial acclimatization at Horombo Hut. A guided hike towards Mawenzi, lasting about 1.5 hours each way, is highly recommended. This excursion aids in acclimatization and enhances your chances of summit success.
Habitat: Moorland
Hiking time: 6-8 hours
Distance: About 10 km
Embark on the challenging ascent towards Kibo Hut, where oxygen levels thin out considerably. Choose one of two trails leading to the “Saddle” between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks, opting for the lower, easier route. Ensure to replenish water supplies, as the next watering point is at Horombo Hut during the descent. Take it slow, staying hydrated as you make your way to Kibo Hut. Upon arrival, rest and dine before preparing for the final ascent. Be sure to organize equipment, including ski-sticks and thermal clothing, and rest early for the early wake-up call ahead.
Habitat: Alpine desert
Hiking time: 6 hours
Distance: About 8 km
Prepare for the toughest day yet, commencing just before midnight for the final ascent towards Uhuru Peak. Navigate through the night up rocky terrain towards Hans Meyer Cave at 5150 meters, with a brief rest before continuing to Gillman’s Point at 5685 meters. The ascent from Gillman’s Point involves steep, stony terrain, often covered in snow as you reach Uhuru Peak at 5895 meters, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. After savoring the moment and capturing memories, begin the descent to Kibo Hut, followed by a brief rest and brunch. Resume the descent to Horombo Hut, arriving in the evening for dinner and a well-deserved overnight stay.
Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit

After an early breakfast, embark on the descent, passing Mandara Hut en route to Marangu Gate.
