FULL ITINERARY
DAY 1 | DAR ES SALAAM TO MIKUMI
The safari starts from Dar es Salaam early morning – drive to Mikumi – carry a packed lunch – afternoon game-drive Mikumi National Park. Mikumi is Tanzania’s 4th biggest national park and has a wide range of wildlife to offer. The park is situated between the Uluguru Mountains and the Lumango go, Its closeness to Dar es Salaam makes it the perfect start of your Southern Tanzania experience. Dinner & Overnight Mikumi National Park
DAY 2 | MIKUMI TO RUAHA NATIONAL PARK
Departure after early morning game-drive, proceed to Ruaha National Park. Ruaha is one of the largest national Park in Tanzania, it covers an area of about 13,000 square km. The Park is part of a larger ecosystem which include Rungwa and Usangu Game Reserves amongst several other protected areas. The park is names after the Great Ruaha River which flows along the south-eastern part of the park. The park is very rich in birdlife, more than 570 species, a haven for birdwatchers. Very large elephant herds to be found here, also a good place to spot the Kudu, Sable and Roan antelopes. The area is also a habitat for the endangered wild dogs, other wildlife include lions, leopard, cheetah, zebra, giraffe and many more. We carry a packed lunch, if time allows you can enjoy an afternoon game-drive. Dinner & Overnight Ruaha National Park
DAY 3 – 4 | RUAHA NATIONAL PARK
Spend two full days at Ruaha with game-drives, return to the camp/lodge for a hot lunch or enjoy a picnic in the park. The park has many impressive baobab trees and the brachstegia ( miombo )woodland is the dominant vegetation. Best time to visit from May to October. Dinner & Overnight Ruaha National Park.
DAY 5 | RUAHA TO SELOUS GAME RESERVE
Today the safari continues to the Selous, due to the large distance a good option would be to fly between these two areas. Transfer to the airstrip and fly to the Selous, pick up on arrival and transfer to the lodge/camp to check in and enjoy lunch. Afternoon enjoy a boat ride on the Rufiji River. This is a totally different experience and great contrast to the previous days of game-drives. The Rufiji River is a wide and winding river which forms several lakes in the heart of the reserve. Enjoy a sundowner while watching the herds of wildlife coming down to the river to drink. A birders paradise and very rich in fish eagles, herons, Egyptian geese, storks, bee eaters and kingfishers. DAY 6 – 7 | SELOUS GAME RESERVE
Spend two full days at the Selous with game-drives, these two days will give you the chance to explore different areas of the vast park and have good photographic opportunities. Apart from the area being famous for its large herds of elephants, hippos and rhinos, the area is also rich with gnus, sable antelopes, eland, greater kudus, waterbucks, spotted hyenas, lions, leopards and buffalos. DAY 8 | SELOUS TO DAR ES SALAAM
Enjoy a last early morning game-drive! Drive back to Dar es Salaam. Drop off at the airport in the evening or extension program.
